Good News! Local Students Honored by Parrish Art Museum

Updated: Mar 31

The late artist Jackson Pollock, who called the East End home, once said, “Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is.”

Broaden “painting” to every medium you can think of, then apply “every good artist” to the winners of the Parrish Art Museum’s annual “Student Exhibition.” Fifty-five high school-age artists earned top honors, including 42 seniors and 13 underclassmen, which were announced during an online ceremony on March 27. Multiple students from East Hampton were recognized.

“In the best art, there is a transcendence, whereby the viewer is emotionally moved or taken to another place by the artist's interpretation,” said Neill Slaughter, a practicing artist who lives in Southampton and college professor for 40 years, who has been the judge at several “Student Exhibition” shows.

The honorees were selected from among 1,000 student entrants into the 65th annual “Student Exhibition.” LTV congratulates these talented young artists!
