PLAYWRIGHTS' THEATRE OF EAST HAMPTON AT LTV STUDIOS IN ASSOCIATION WITH KASSAR PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS

The Pillowman

by Martin McDonagh
Directed by Stephen Hamilton
Scenic Design by Brenna Leaver
Sound Design by David M. Brandenburg
Production Stage Manager Carlos Garcia
Produced by Edward Kassar and Josh Gladstone

The Pillowman, by celebrated playwright and screenwriter Martin McDonagh, is set in a fictional totalitarian state and tells the story of a writer of gruesome tales who becomes a suspect in a series of bizarre murders. After its 2003 premiere in London, the play received the Olivier Award for Best New Play and was called "Brothers Grimm rehashed by Quentin Tarantino" by London's Daily Herald.  It transferred to Broadway in 2005, where The New York Times called it "a spellbinding stunner" and "this season's most exciting and original new play."

With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, THE PILLOWMAN centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

DINNER & A SHOW!

LTV Studios is partnering with nearby The Clubhouse Restaurant to celebrate Kassar Production’s shocking, dark and wickedly funny play THE PILLOWMAN by Academy Award winning writer Martin McDonagh. You may need a strong drink and a good bite before or after the play; so come to The Clubhouse at 174 Daniels Hole Road and present your proof of tix or playbill for 20% off your entire bill. Limited time offer expires when the play does on May 5. Enjoy!

Please Note: Due to the graphic description of violence in The Pillowman, children under the age of 16 will not be admitted.

The Creatives

Reviews

“Energizing…a blindingly bright black comedy…[what makes] the unsettling and exhilarating new play from Mr. McDonagh…so gripping as theater is how narrative art becomes the play’s and the character’s very life blood.”

— The New York Times

“[McDonagh is] a dangerously prodigious master of theatrical form with a talent that goes far deeper than most people understand…THE PILLOWMAN [is] thoroughly startling and genuinely intimidating.”

— Chicago Tribune

“McDonagh’s least forgiving, bravest play.”

— Variety

“A complex tale about life and art, about fact and illusion, about politics, society, cruelty and creativity.”

— Financial Times
