The Pillowman, by celebrated playwright and screenwriter Martin McDonagh, is set in a fictional totalitarian state and tells the story of a writer of gruesome tales who becomes a suspect in a series of bizarre murders. After its 2003 premiere in London, the play received the Olivier Award for Best New Play and was called "Brothers Grimm rehashed by Quentin Tarantino" by London's Daily Herald. It transferred to Broadway in 2005, where The New York Times called it "a spellbinding stunner" and "this season's most exciting and original new play."

With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, THE PILLOWMAN centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

SAWYER SPIELBERG, ACTOR

Sawyer Spielberg is a New York-based actor and has starred in the independent features: Honeydew, Merry Good Enough, Christmas Eve In Miller's Point, and The Martyr of Gowanus. He has a recurring role on Apple TV+’s series, Masters of the Air. Theatre Credits include Extinction, The Diary of Anne Frank, Of Mice and Men, Art, Hamlet, Leviticus, Safe, Freeway, The Audition, Stupid Fucking Bird and more.

JOHN KROFT, ACTOR

John Kroft is a New York based actor and has appeared in the city in Dan Cody’s Yacht (MTC) and The Weak and the Strong (La Mama). Regionally, he has performed in such shows as Love All (La Jolla Playhouse), The Tempest (The Guthrie), The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) (Neo-Political Cowgirls), Dutch Masters (Northern Stage), Lifespan of a Fact (Pioneer Theater Company), The Great Gatsby (Bay Street Theater), and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Williamstown Theater festival); as well as a number of workshops for The Sundance Institute, Eugene O'Neil National Playwrights’ Conference, The Geva Theater and The Chautauqua Theater Company. He has appeared on screen in TV shows such as Blue Bloods (CBS) and Red Oaks (AMAZON), the docu-series The Andy Warhol Diaries (NETFLIX); and in the film MASTER (AMAZON), the film MAESTRO (NETFLIX), as well as a handful of other short and independent films. You can also find his work as a narrator in several audiobooks at Audible.com. John is a proud graduate of The Juilliard school.
