Two distinct voices, one shared language: jazz at its most intimate and inspired.

“Imagine if Sarah Vaughan played saxophone like Dexter Gordon. That’s approximately the effect when singer and tenor saxophonist Camille Thurman performs.” -Downbeat Magazine

Camille Thurman is a uniquely gifted artist who stands at the crossroads of vocal jazz tradition and instrumental mastery. A rare talent who excels both as a tenor saxophonist and a powerful jazz vocalist, Thurman has earned comparisons to legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Dexter Gordon—while forging a voice that is entirely her own.

A Bronx native and alumna of the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center’s touring ensemble, Thurman gained national attention as a featured member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, becoming one of the first women to tour and record extensively with the group. Her performances exhibit a deep command of swing, bebop, and blues idioms, both in her supple saxophone lines and her dynamic, expressive vocals.

Thurman’s acclaimed solo albums on Chesky Records, including Inside the Moment and Waiting for the Sunrise, have charted on Billboard and earned her accolades for their emotional depth, sonic clarity, and virtuosic improvisation. As a composer, she brings forward personal narratives and rich harmonic textures that reflect her expansive musical identity.

In addition to her work as a bandleader, Thurman is a passionate educator and advocate for women in jazz, regularly speaking and teaching at institutions and workshops around the world. With every performance, she affirms her place as a leading voice in contemporary jazz—fearless, versatile, and inspiring.
