Rocio Snyder is a Peruvian-American (Santa Cruz, California) with maternal roots in the Andean city of Huancayo, Peru.
Her work incorporates a wide range of techniques, themes, and materials, often exploring the deconstruction of the corporeal, the female figure, mythological beings, nature, and popular religiosity. She has worked with wood, metal, stone, textiles, and pigments.
Her artistic training began as a free student at the School of Fine Arts of Nicaragua and continued at the Faculty of Art at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where she specialized in Sculpture. In 2009, she was awarded the Winternitz Prize for artistic excellence.
She was a member of TRESS – Printmaking Workshop, directed by Cristina Dueñas. That experience led to a connection with the renowned master printmaker and artist Dan Welden. Together, they have taught and participated in various printmaking residencies in Lima and Cuzco (Peru), Long Island (New York), and Havana (Cuba).
For the past 14 years, she has served as a volunteer art instructor at the Juvenile Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center of Lima—the largest juvenile detention center in Peru—as well as, since 2009, at the maximum-security prison Chorrillos II, and since 2019, at the women’s prison Virgen de Fátima.
