The Playwrights' Theatre of East Hampton at LTV Studios in association with New York Theatre Company & Most Much Productions present

“Break”
A new play by Lindsay Carpenter
Directed by SB Tennent

7:30PM - Friday 9/18 & Saturday 9/19
2:00 PM - Saturday 9/19 & Sunday 9/20

Two men are trapped in a room, forced to stack an ever-taller tower of dishes on one man's back. A voice threatens to kill them if a wall-mounted ticker hits 50. Above them, in a glass-walled booth, a by-the-book Deputy and her wildly under-qualified new assistant run the increasingly bizarre punishment. But as the dishes pile higher and the ticker climbs, the rules begin to unravel—and so does the question of what these men have done to deserve being there. Darkly funny, suspenseful, and unnervingly intimate, Break is a twist-filled psychological thriller about parenthood, punishment, forgiveness, and broken dishes.

PLAYWRIGHTS’ THEATRE OF EAST HAMPTON The Playwrights' Theatre was founded in East Hampton in 1992 by producer and Springs resident Mitzi Pazer from The Roundabout Theatre Company along with her husband, attorney  Perry Pazer. They started the series at LTV where it operated every summer for 10 years before shifting to the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall for another ten seasons. Incredible stars took part: Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson, Judd Hirsch, Estelle Parsons, Dianne Wiest, Peter Boyle, Jack Klugman, Mercedes Ruehl, Tovah Feldshuh and Charles Durning among countless others. Playwrights' Theatre gave a chance for East Hampton audiences to meet and mingle with these luminaries in a relaxed setting where process and dialogue were encouraged with great talkbacks and informal garden receptions. The emphasis was on the written and spoken word, with playwrights being selected by Mitzi and afforded a remarkable, focused and hospitable workshop in which to hear and shape their developing plays. When Josh Gladstone to joined the team at LTV in early 2023, Gladstone reached out to the Pazers with an invitation, and sure enough the Pazers responded, excited to see their legacy of 30 years reignited and reimagined for a new generation of East Hampton theater lovers and artists. LTV is proud to welcome The Playwrights' Theatre back home to Studio 3 in Wainscott, where the work of the Pazers will continue, offering creative opportunities to theater-makers to develop their voices and imaginations throughout the year.

LTV STUDIOS - Every great community has a place where creativity comes alive. A place where local musicians perform, filmmakers tell important stories, artists exhibit their work, students discover new passions, and neighbors come together to celebrate culture.

LTV is more than a television station. It’s the East End’s creative living room…a home for artists, musicians, filmmakers, storytellers, podcasts, nonprofits, students, and neighbors. It’s where ideas become reality, where local voices are amplified, and where our community comes together to create something bigger than ourselves. As a nonprofit, we don’t exist because of shareholders or corporate investors. We exist because people like you believe that local arts, local media, and local voices ma
